Light is a concept that fascinates me. The play of light on a bead, the play of light on water, the play of light at night. I love how under a starlit sky, some colors will retain vestiges of their daytime color, while others will alter and change, appearing washed out and silvery. As I was starting on my bead mosaic journey when making this piece, I chose the turtle because for me turtles represent perservance and a steady movement towards one's objectives and goals.
The Starlight Turtle
Framed: 5 inches x 5 inches x 3/4 inch (12.7cm x 12.7cm x 1.91cm)
Unframed: 4 inches x 4 inches (10.16cm x 10.16cm)
This piece was created using Miyuki Delica beads (size 11/0) attached with glue to a glass substrate. It is mounted on a handpainted square block of wood and is ready to hang. The framing color was chosen and painted specifically to match the piece.
A variety of techniques were used to lay the beads, providing the variation in surfaces and textures. It is a 2D piece. It is sealed, so it is safe to touch and handle.
